The Hispanic Women's Council (HWC) Scholarship Program was established in 2007 to provide academic scholarships and mentorship to Hispanic women who are residents of New Mexico. HWC offers scholarships to help Hispanic Women who are working to complete degrees, licenses, or programs of study. The HWC Scholarship is intended for continuing undergraduate and graduate students (the more hours the better) currently admitted at the University of New Mexico (UNM) or Central New Mexico Community College (CNM).
The mentoring component of the scholarship requires the recipient to meet twice each semester with a mentor for academic and career advising.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the strength of the applicant’s personal statement and the potential to succeed based on letters of reference. Successful awardees will be considered for scholarship renewal.
The deadline for the 2013-2014 scholarship has closed. Thank you for your interest.
The New Mexico Hispanic Women's Council is a not-for-profit, intergenerational organization founded in 1988 to promote, support, and create opportunities for Hispanic women. Through the Scholarship Program, HWC envisions creating a legacy of:
a. educating Hispanic Women;
b. moving them into professions; and
c. enabling them to become valuable leaders in our community
HWC awarded 20 scholarships to students for the 2011-2012 academic year. Nineteen of the scholarship recipients attend the University of New Mexico and one recipient attends Central New Mexico Community College. We congratulate the HWC Scholarship recipients and wish them continued success!
The scholarship awards would not be possible without the generous contributions of Hispanic Women's Council members, friends and supporters. Thank you, thank you!
We invite your continued support of the HWC Scholarship effort and welcome new supporters. Donations to the scholarship fund can be made at any time and are tax deductible.
